Authors Guidelines

The GMB Case Reports welcomes high-quality case reports that contribute to the advancement of medical and biomedical sciences. These guidelines provide essential information for authors to prepare and submit their manuscripts. Following these guidelines ensures a smooth submission process and enhances the chances of successful publication.

Manuscript Structure

All manuscripts should be prepared in accordance with the following structure:

Title Page

  • Title: A concise, informative title that reflects the case’s content and novelty.
  • Author Information: Include full names, affiliations, and contact details (including email addresses) for all authors. Clearly identify the corresponding author.
  • Keywords: Provide 3-5 relevant keywords that capture the main themes of the case report.
  • Conflict of Interest Statement: Declare any potential conflicts of interest for all authors.

Abstract

  • The abstract should be a concise summary (150-250 words) that includes:
    • A brief background of the clinical case.
    • A description of the patient’s presentation and management.
    • The outcome and its significance to clinical practice.

Introduction

  • Provide background information on the condition or clinical issue being discussed. Explain the importance of the case, focusing on its relevance to clinical practice and/or its uniqueness compared to previously reported cases.

Case Presentation

  • Patient Information: Include details about the patient’s demographics (age, gender), medical history, presenting symptoms, and relevant clinical findings.
  • Diagnostic Assessments: Provide a clear description of the diagnostic process, including laboratory tests, imaging studies, and other diagnostic methods.
  • Intervention and Treatment: Outline the treatments or procedures carried out, along with their rationale.
  • Outcome and Follow-up: Describe the patient’s response to treatment, any complications, and the final outcome.

Discussion

  • Interpret the case’s significance in the context of existing literature. Discuss how the case contributes to medical knowledge, its implications for clinical practice, and any learning points for healthcare professionals.
  • Compare the case with previously reported cases, highlighting its novelty, challenges, and outcomes.

Conclusion

  • Summarize the key clinical insights and lessons learned from the case. Provide any recommendations for future clinical practice or research.

References

  • Cite relevant studies to support the case’s background and discussion. References should be numbered consecutively in the order in which they appear in the text and should follow the journal’s referencing style (e.g., Vancouver or APA format).

Figures and Tables

  • Figures (e.g., images, diagnostic charts) and tables should be included to visually represent key findings. Each figure and table should be numbered and include a descriptive legend. Ensure that all patient-identifying information is removed or anonymized.

3. Submission Process

Manuscript Submission

  • Submissions should be made through the journal’s online submission system. Authors must ensure that all parts of the manuscript, including figures and tables, are included in a single file, unless otherwise specified.

Language and Style

  • Manuscripts must be written in clear, grammatically correct English. Non-native English speakers are encouraged to seek professional editing services before submission.
  • Use a consistent academic writing style, avoiding jargon or overly technical language that may be difficult for general readers to understand.

Ethical Requirements

  • Informed Consent: Authors must obtain written informed consent from patients or their legal guardians if there is any possibility that patients could be identified from case details or images. A statement confirming that consent has been obtained must be included in the manuscript.
  • Ethical Approval: All case reports must comply with the ethical guidelines for human subjects, and authors should include a statement indicating that ethical approval was obtained where necessary. For retrospective case reports that do not require ethical approval, this should be stated clearly in the manuscript.
  • Patient Confidentiality: Ensure that all identifying information is removed or anonymized. Patients must not be identifiable in any images or text unless explicit consent is provided.

4. Authorship and Contributions

  • Authorship Criteria: All authors listed on the manuscript must have made a substantial contribution to the work, including:
    • Conception or design of the case report.
    • Drafting or revising the manuscript critically for intellectual content.
    • Final approval of the version to be published.
  • Author Contributions Statement: Include a statement outlining each author’s specific contributions to the manuscript (e.g., data collection, writing, review).
  • Acknowledgments: Acknowledge individuals who contributed to the work but do not meet the criteria for authorship, such as technical staff or writing assistance.

5. Conflict of Interest and Funding

  • Conflict of Interest: All authors must disclose any financial, personal, or professional conflicts of interest that may influence the research or interpretation of results. These declarations must be made in the manuscript under the “Conflict of Interest” section.
  • Funding Sources: Clearly state any funding or financial support received for the case report. If no funding was received, include a statement indicating so.

6. Plagiarism and Originality

  • Original Work: Submitted manuscripts must be the authors’ original work and should not have been published or submitted elsewhere. The journal uses plagiarism detection tools to ensure originality, and cases of suspected plagiarism will be handled according to the journal’s policies.
  • Duplicate Submission: GMB Case Reports does not accept duplicate submissions or previously published content. Authors are responsible for ensuring that their submission is not under review at any other journal at the time of submission.

7. Review and Decision Process

  • Peer Review: All submissions are subject to a double-blind peer review process, in which reviewers evaluate the manuscript based on its originality, clarity, ethical adherence, and contribution to clinical knowledge.
  • Revision Process: Authors may be asked to revise their manuscript based on reviewer feedback. Revised manuscripts must be resubmitted within the specified time frame, and authors should clearly indicate any changes made in response to reviewer comments.
  • Editorial Decision: The final decision on manuscript acceptance or rejection rests with the editorial board, based on the reviewers' recommendations and the journal’s editorial policies.

8. Copyright and License

  • Copyright Transfer: Upon acceptance, authors will be required to transfer copyright of the manuscript to GMB Case Reports. This ensures that the journal has the right to publish and distribute the work.
  • Open Access License: GMB Case Reports operates under an open-access model, meaning that published articles are freely accessible to readers worldwide. Articles are licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution License, which allows for redistribution and reproduction, provided proper credit is given to the original authors.

9. Post-Acceptance

  • Proofs: After acceptance, the corresponding author will receive page proofs to review. Authors should check the proofs carefully for any errors and return them promptly to ensure timely publication.
  • Publication Charges: The journal may charge a publication fee to cover the costs associated with open access publishing. Authors will be notified of any fees upon acceptance of their manuscript.
  • Article Promotion: GMB Case Reports encourages authors to actively promote their published work through academic networks, social media, and professional organizations to maximize the visibility and impact of their case report.
