Manuscript Guidelines

The GMB Case Reports is dedicated to publishing high-quality case reports that contribute to the advancement of medical and biomedical knowledge. Authors are expected to follow these manuscript preparation guidelines to ensure a smooth review and publication process. These guidelines outline the structure, formatting, and submission requirements for manuscripts submitted to the journal.

  • Sections: The manuscript should be divided into the following sections:

    1. Title Page
    2. Abstract
    3. Keywords
    4. Introduction

  • Corresponding Author: Clearly identify the author responsible for correspondence during the submission and peer review process.
  • Conflict of Interest Statement: Include a declaration of any conflicts of interest for all authors.

Abstract

  • The abstract should be structured and provide a brief overview of the case report (150-250 words). It should include:
    • Background: A concise introduction to the case.
    • Case Presentation: Key details about the patient’s condition, diagnosis, and management.
    • Conclusion: The significance of the case to clinical practice or future research.

Keywords

  • Provide 3-5 keywords that reflect the main topics of the manuscript. Keywords should be specific to the case and assist with indexing.

Introduction

  • The introduction should provide background information on the medical condition, highlighting its relevance and significance. It should briefly describe why the case is unique, rare, or contributes to current knowledge.

Case Presentation

  • Patient Information: Include details such as age, sex, relevant medical history, and presenting symptoms.
  • Clinical Findings: Present the diagnostic procedures, laboratory findings, imaging results, and any other relevant data.
  • Therapeutic Interventions: Describe the treatment provided, including medications, surgical procedures, and follow-up care.
  • Outcome and Follow-Up: Provide details on the patient’s progress, outcome, and any follow-up evaluations.

Discussion

  • The discussion should interpret the findings, comparing them with previously reported cases and highlighting the uniqueness of the case. Discuss the clinical implications, challenges, or lessons learned, and offer a critical evaluation of the case in the context of current medical literature.

Conclusion

  • Provide a brief summary of the key clinical insights from the case, and suggest potential future directions for research or clinical practice.

References

  • References should be numbered consecutively in the order they appear in the text. Use a consistent citation style (e.g., Vancouver or APA) as specified by the journal.
  • Cite only the most relevant and up-to-date literature.

Figures and Tables

  • Figures: Figures should be of high quality (300 dpi resolution) and saved as separate files (JPEG, TIFF, or PNG). They should be numbered consecutively and include concise legends.
  • Tables: Tables should be self-explanatory, numbered consecutively, and placed after the references section. Each table should have a descriptive title and a legend explaining any abbreviations used.

3. Ethical Considerations

  • Informed Consent: All case reports must include a statement confirming that informed consent was obtained from the patient or their legal guardian. In cases where the patient’s identity might be revealed, explicit written consent must be obtained and documented.

  • Ethical Approval: For case reports that require institutional review board (IRB) approval, a statement of approval must be included. If IRB approval was not required, this must also be indicated.

  • Patient Confidentiality: Ensure that no identifying information (e.g., names, hospital numbers, photographs) is included in the manuscript unless explicit consent is obtained. Patient anonymity must be strictly maintained.

4. Authorship and Contributions

  • Authorship Criteria: All authors listed must have contributed significantly to the manuscript. This may include contributions to the study design, data collection, analysis, writing, or revision of the manuscript.

  • Acknowledgments: Any individuals who contributed to the study but do not meet the criteria for authorship should be acknowledged in a separate section. Be sure to include funding sources or institutional support, if applicable.

  • Author Contributions Statement: Include a section explaining the specific contributions of each author (e.g., conceptualization, data curation, manuscript drafting, etc.).

5. Conflict of Interest and Funding

  • Conflict of Interest: All authors must disclose any potential conflicts of interest, including financial, personal, or professional affiliations that could affect the interpretation of the data.

  • Funding Disclosure: Any financial support or funding for the case report should be acknowledged in the manuscript. If there is no funding, include a statement confirming this.

  • Cover Letter: Authors are encouraged to include a cover letter explaining the significance of the case report, how it contributes to the journal’s scope, and confirming that the manuscript is original and not under review elsewhere.

  • Plagiarism Check: All submissions will undergo a plagiarism check to ensure the originality of the content. Manuscripts suspected of plagiarism will be rejected.

  • Review Process: Manuscripts will undergo double-blind peer review. Reviewers will assess the manuscript based on its scientific merit, clinical relevance, clarity, and ethical standards.

7. Revision and Resubmission

  • Revisions: If revisions are requested, authors will be provided with detailed feedback from the reviewers. Revised manuscripts must be resubmitted within the time frame specified in the editorial decision letter, and changes should be clearly indicated.

  • Response to Reviewers: Authors should provide a point-by-point response to reviewer comments, explaining how each concern was addressed in the revised manuscript.

8. Post-Acceptance Process

  • Proofs: Once accepted, the corresponding author will receive page proofs for final review. Authors are expected to check the proofs carefully for any errors or inconsistencies and return them promptly to avoid delays in publication.

  • Article Publication: Upon final approval of the proofs, the article will be published online as an open-access article under a Creative Commons license.

  • Publication Fees: The journal may charge a publication fee for open access. Authors will be informed of any applicable fees upon acceptance of their manuscript.
